God's Patterns
by Marina Layton
January 19, 2012

The book of Exodus has so much fascinating information regarding God's intent on how we should live ... from God's laws to instructions on how to build the Tabernacle in which He would dwell among His people. I enjoy making quilts and doing hand embroidery projects to give to my children and grandchildren. In Exodus 36-39, we find Bezalel working and leading craftsmen in the building of the Ark of he Covenant, including curtains with embroidery. What a privilege he was given! God was very specific as to the pattern (directions) that he should follow, paying attention to small details and using the finest of materials.

In reading this portion of scripture and studying it, the Holy Spirit spoke to me and said, "You know, Marina, I have a plan (pattern) as to how your life should be woven and embroidered. There are times you strayed from my instructions and desires for you. Your life can be as beautiful as the curtains in the Ark of the Covenant if you would only listen and follow My directions. Those holes you made in your fabric of life have been mended and have disappeared when you asked me to be your Savior and to forgive your sins; however, you need to follow My pattern for your life from now on. Just don't make-up your own pattern; I created you, and because I did, My pattern is ever so much better!" How do I know His pattern? By seeking Him: being in His Word, taking time to study, journal, pray, listen, and obey what He tells me!

As we move through 2012, let's remember the importance of taking time to be alone with God and in fellowship with Him. Then, we know His design (pattern) for us. He is always available, are you?
